R.W.Bro. Alan Stewart.
Was born in the Sydenham area of Belfast subsequently living in the Castlereagh and Braniel areas of the city. He was educated in Euston Street & Lisnasharragh Primary Schools and Newtownards Technical College. An Engineering Apprenticeship commenced in 1961 with Short Brothers where he finished his employment as a Research Engineer working on Missile Development. In 1966 he left Shorts and took up a Lecturing post at Castlereagh College of Further Education, retiring from the College in 1991 as the Senior Lecturer with responsibility for the Production Engineering Section of the College.
Alan served as a Provincial Grand Steward in 1992 and took up position as Provincial Assistant Grand Secretary in April 1993. A post that he held with great distinction for sixteen years until he retired from that Office in April 2009.
He was initiated into Saint Jude’s Lodge No. XXVI in March 1974, was Master in 1982 and served as Treasurer for 12 years. He is also a Past Master of Saint Donard’s Lodge No. 676 (1986) and served as Treasurer for 4 years. He is a Foundation Member and a Past Master of Rosetta Lodge of Installed Masters No. 188 (1998) where he was also Treasurer for 2 years. He is also an Honorary Member of the Lodge of Dunfermline No. 26 (S.C.) and has served as Secretary of Ballymacarrett District Committee of Inspection since Sept 1993, and elected as Chairman in 2009. He was appointed Honorary Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 1997. At the St John's Day Communication on 28th December 2009, he was invested as Grand Lodge Standard Bearer.
His current responsibilities on behalf of the Province are for:- Provincial Grand Lodge Board of Inspectors, District Committees of Inspection, Liaison with other Branches, Church Services, Church & Public Relations and Provincial Grand Lodge Joint & Social Events.
